El Morro
Location: Chile
Stage: Exploration

The El Morro project is a joint venture between Falconbridge (70%) and Metallica Resources Limited (30%). There are two porphyry systems on the property – the El Morro system and the La Fortuna deposit. Exploration in the last three years has focused on the La Fortuna deposit, which was discovered by the Company's exploration team in 2001. Favourably situated close to two copper smelters, the La Fortuna deposit is a large porphyry with high gold co-product credits resulting in low net copper cash costs. It has inferred resources of 466 million tonnes grading 0.61% copper and 0.50 grade per tonne of gold. The deposit also features a high-grade resource core and a low pre-stripping ratio. The property has further exploration potential as the orebody remains open at depth.
