Raglan is an attractive deposit with 24.6 million tonnes of reserves and resources with close to 3% nickel. As a result of the growth in the Raglan resource base, we are developing a two-phase expansion that would increase Raglan's annual mine production from 1.0 million tonnes to 1.3 million tonnes of ore (or a 5,000 tonne-per-year increase in refined nickel production) by 2007.
The first phase of the program involves improvements to the grinding section of the concentrator. The primary mill will be converted from autogenous to semi-autogenous grinding (SAG), increasing Raglan's ability to process harder ore while reducing variation in its grinding circuit. The conversion will take place in October 2005, with a two-week shutdown of the mill.
The second phase will involve removal of bottlenecks in the balance of the concentrator, an increase in mining rates and enhancements to various support services such as power generation and site accommodations.
