The Canadian Copper Refinery (CCR), located in Montréal, Québec, Canada, refines anode copper from the Horne and Altonorte smelters, as well as other unrefined copper and precious metals from Falconbridge and third-party sources. For Falconbridge, CCR represents the final phase in the transformation of copper and precious metals from the mine to the market.
Operations
Copper anodes are refined into 99.99% copper cathodes.
CCR has an annual capacity to produce 370,000 tonnes of copper cathodes, 1.0 million ounces of gold, and 45 million ounces of silver and other specialty metals and chemicals, including selenium, tellurium, copper sulphate, nickel sulphate and a concentrate of platinum group metals.
Under a recently completed commercial agreement, CCR will refine 115,000 tonnes per year of copper anodes produced at Inco Limited's Sudbury operations, as of May 1, 2006.
