Lead
The main use of lead worldwide is for lead-acid batteries

Falconbridge markets and sells refined lead and by-products produced at the Brunswick smelter, in Belledune, New Brunswick, Canada.

Operations
Falconbridge's Brunswick smelter is located 30 minutes northeast of the Brunswick mine, at a deep-water port on the Atlantic Ocean.

An important feed source for the smelter is lead concentrate from our Brunswick mine. Other concentrate feeds are shipped from mines throughout the world and stored under cover at the bulk handling operation until processed.

Recyclable feeds such as spent lead acid batteries, refining drosses from other smelters, lead metal scrap and lead-contaminated materials are also processed at the Brunswick smelter. All recycling processes are fully permitted and closely monitored by governmental agencies and Falconbridge's internal environmental management system.
