At Falconbridge, sustainable development is the implementation of practices and policies that contribute to the well-being of the environment, economy and society to address the needs of customers, suppliers, shareholders, employees, government, the general public and the communities in which we operate, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
In other words, we make decisions and adopt practices that contribute to our communities and the natural environment, while generating positive financial results, both today and tomorrow.
Sustainable Development Policy
The Falconbridge Sustainable Development Policy communicates our core values and guides our business activities and actions, wherever we operate. The Policy is endorsed by the Company's CEO, President and Senior Vice-President for Environment, Health & Safety, and all Falconbridge employees and contractors have the responsibility to support its commitments.

Sustainable Development in Action
At Noranda Recycling, we process metal-bearing end-of-life electronic equipment such as computers, printers and cell phones. Recycling valuable resources, such as copper, gold, zinc and aluminum, creates profitable returns for Falconbridge, generates feed for our smelters and assists with employment for local communities, while reducing potentially adverse environmental impacts associated with primary extraction from the earth or sending spent electronics to landfills. Our electronic recycling activities exemplify our values and are an example of our strategic commitments to sustainable development. Please see Noranda Recycling for more information. |
